Music on Download Sites
Article by Ken Kroening
A while ago, one of the biggest sources of music online turned
out to be illegal. Though many were prosecuted, some still
use the same type of site today.
There are many legitimate sites
where you can buy music, and which you chose might be more of
a moral choice than a financial one. Though the choice will be
up to you, you have to decide if the risk is worth the free music.
There are a lot of great music download sites out there, and
the once renegade site Napster is now a popular site for music,
but you now have to pay for it.
Now that IPods are very popular, music download sites are doing
more business than ever. Many of them will sell you a song for
about 99 cents. This price is comparable to what you might pay
per song on a CD full of songs, and if you do it this way, you
only have to pay for the songs that you want. You can still buy
an entire album if you wish, and it will probably cost you the
same, if not less, than what you spend in the store. This is great
for those who want music on their computer or their MP3 players.
There are many of these music download sites that might come with
your computer. The site is located online, but your computer might
come with the software needed to use the service. This does not
mean that you have to use that service though. That particular
site may have made a deal with your computer manufacturer to have
the software already installed when you buy. You have the choice
of using it, or you can go online to find one that works better
for you, or that may have a better price per song.
Though there are many music download sites online that offer music
sharing, remember that these are not all legal. What happened with
Napster showed us that you can be tracked down and prosecuted for
sharing music online, and perhaps you should think before you download.

You may get songs for free, but you may also find yourself in
legal trouble, and there are many viruses floating around those
free sharing programs. The choice is up to you in the end, of course,
but you would be far wiser to go the legal route and pay for
your music.
